Fall Monster and Creature Craft Ideas

Here are four fun and easy creature craft projects to learn about colors, shapes, counting, and more! These activities and the supplies you need to complete them are in our October activity kit. Learn more about the kit by clicking below.

Super Squished Monster

Teach your child about symmetry with this super squished creature art project!

What You Need:

  • Paper
  • Tempera Paint (mix powder with water)
  • Googly Eyes
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick 

What You Do: 

  1. Fold the piece of paper in half.
  2. Unfold the piece of paper and pour about 1/2 teaspoon of paint in the crease.
  3. Fold the paper again and squish the paint around. Be careful that the paint doesn’t leak out of the sides of the paper.
  4. Unfold the paper and let the paint dry.
  5. After the paint dries, glue on the googly eyes.
  6. Cut the mouth out of construction paper and glue it on to the monster.

Candy Corn Creature

This activity is great for counting using candy corn as teeth! Add and subtract teeth on your creature! You can also make and talk about different shapes with the creature bodies.

What You Need:

  • Orange, green, black, and white paper
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • 6-8 pieces of candy corn 

What You Do: 

  1. Start by cutting out the monster’s main orange body, arms, and legs. 
  2. Cut a smaller rounded rectangle out of the black paper to be the monster’s mouth. 
  3. Then cut out two white circles for the eyes and color them in with the black marker. 
  4. Glue on the candy corn teeth.
  5. Add some green horns and feet to finish.

Paper Plate Creepy Crawly

This creature craft is a great opportunity to teach your child how to make an accordion fold with paper to build fine motor skills!

What You Need:

  • Paper plate
  • Construction paper
  • Tempera paint (mix powder with water)
  • Paint brush
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue stick 

What You Do:

  1. Paint your paper plate with the color of your choice. Set it aside to dry completely.
  2. After your paper plate has finished drying, decorate it with the googly eyes. 
  3. Cut a mouth out of your construction paper and glue it onto the paper plate. 
  4. Cut 3 long strips from your construction paper. Cut each strip in half and then teach your child how to bend the strips accordion style. 
  5. Glue the arms and legs onto your monster (or staple with an adult’s help.)

Silly Recycled Craft Creature

Dig into the recycle bin to make these silly creatures! Ask your child to tell you about their creature. Make up stories together about your creatures!

What You Need:

  • Egg cartons, empty paper roll tubes, paper cups
  • Tempera paint (mix powder with water)
  • Markers
  • Glue stick
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Scissors

What You Do:

Using recycled materials and the paint, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes (plus anything else you have on hand such as buttons, markers, cork), you can make your own recycled craft creatures! Paint your materials. Glue on googly eyes. You can use pipe cleaners to make tentacles, arms, or spiky hair!
