Don’t let the cold outside put a freeze on your family fun! Our staff has put together a number of resources and fun winter activities to get your family active and moving both indoors and outdoors during the coldest months of the year!
Winter Activity Kit:
Our monthly at-home activity kit for January is a flurry of fun! You’ll find winter-themed activities, craft supplies, snacks, and a classic children’s book The Snowy Day. You’ll have SNOW much fun with these activities:
- Have a play snowball fight!
- Go on a winter scavenger hunt!
- Play winter movement games that build gross motor skills!
- Create snowflake and snowman crafts!
- Make hibernating animal puppets!
- Explore simple sensory bins!
- Shake, sing, and ring to winter songs and rhymes!
The activity kits are free to local families with young children ages 0-5 as a way to spark play-based learning and positive family interaction. If this is your first time participating in a First Chance program or activity, fill out our online enrollment form.
Starting this month, enrolled families do not need to contact us to reserve a kit. The kits will be given out on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. You may pick up an activity kit during our Columbia Lend & Learn Curbside Pick up hours on Tuesdays 9am-11am & Thursdays 1pm-3pm. When you have arrived at our office parking lot at 1010 Fay St, text/call Charity (573-340-1341), and she will bring the activity kit to your car. Kit delivery is also available by request – email quinnc@fc4c.org.
Northern Boone County Families may pick up a kit during our Northern Boone Diaper Drive Thru on Thursday Jan 28 from 9-12 am at L&L North 1023 E. Hwy 22, Centralia MO. Kit delivery is also available by request- email bradleye@fc4c.org.
Anyone can download and print the activities included in the kit for your own enjoyment.
New Online Events
We are offering two new monthly events for families! It’s a great chance to meet and learn alongside other parents, grandparents, and caregivers! Now more than ever, we believe it is essential to provide a place for families to support and connect with one another. In January, we are focusing our events on equipping families with new opportunities and ideas to stay active and play outside even through the winter!

Drop into Zoom for fun activities and a chat with staff & parents! Save the Event Bag in this month’s activity kit to do an activity with other families at the end of the month. Come & go as you need or stay the whole hour!

Toy Checkout
Winter is the perfect time to check out one of our toy sets that include themed toys, props, activities, games, puzzles, and books to play at home! View the lists of toy sets for baby (0-18 mos) and toddler (1-5 yrs), which include photos and descriptions of what is inside each set. It’s easy to reserve a set – simply contact Charity Quinn about which set you would like to pick up during our weekly curbside hours. Read more
