The Activities!
1. Family Movie Night:
Watch an animated short movie of Room on the Broom together! Stream on Netflix or Amazon Prime video, or you can check the DVD out from Daniel Boone Regional Library!
2. The Little Witch Rhyme:
Sing this rhyme together, act it out, or point to pictures of the characters in the book!

Repeat with the other animals that sit on her broom:
…with the cat, and the dog on the broom?
…with the cat, the dog, and the bird on the broom?

3. Shape Witch:
Practice shapes and colors as you create a shape witch from construction paper!
What You Need:
- Construction paper for background
- Construction paper cut into shapes. Ask your child to choose what shapes they want or follow these suggestions:
- black triangle and black rectangle for the hat
- circle for the face (any color)
- two squares for eyes (any color)
- long rectangle strips for hair
- rectangle for mouth
- triangle for nose
- Glue stick
- Scissors
What You Do:
To make the witch, glue the face down and then the hair. Then add the hat and other littler shapes to make the eyes, nose and mouth. As you work and create, talk with your child about colors and shapes.
4. Witch’s Miniature Broom & Wand:
Make your own broom & wand from things you find around your house & backyard!
Witch Broom
What You Need:
- Stick
- Dry grass, straw, or smaller twigs
- String or twine
- Scissors
What You Do:
- Collect a stick and dry grass, straw or smaller twigs from outside.
- Take a small bunch of small grass and place it around one end of your stick.
- Tie the grass in place using string.
- Take scissors and snip the dry grass into a neater broom shape.
Witch Wand
What You Need:
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Paint or markers
- Stick or wooden spoon
- Tape
- Ribbon or streamers (optional)
What You Do:
- Cut out a star from cardboard.
- Decorate it with paint or markers.
- Tape it to a stick or wooden spoon.
- For extra decoration, tie or tape on ribbons or streamers.
5. Broomstick Snack
Snacktivities are always a hit with little ones. Try making a broomstick out of cheese sticks and pretzel sticks!
What You Need:
- String cheese
- Pretzel sticks
- Chives (optional)
What You Do:
- Cut the cheese string into thirds.
- Spread apart the cheese into thin strands to make it look like a broomstick end.
- Poke the pretzel into the end of the cheese string. Just be careful not to push it too far or else the cheese will start to split.
- Optional: Find the skinniest chives that you can possibly find, and just tie it neatly around the cheese, using your fingernails to pinch off the ends.
